Birthdate: November 10th, 1976 (35 years old)
Bio:
I'm a self inflicted game addict since the days of pre-atari. My first game was on a Texas Instruments home pc; it was Hunt the Wumpus.
Now I play all types of games from handhelds to arcade.
My favorite game ever played is Savage:Battle for Newerth, which can be played for free. The community and recommended installs are at Newerth.
I'm also an avid Basketball fan. So I'll rant here about it as I don't talk about it anywhere else! Anyway, my local Jazz being my any-weather team, with the L.A. Clippers and Chicago Bulls being my "watching TV" hopefuls. These are the teams I want to see in the championship, winning.
Then the teams to jeer for or cheer any failure attributed to them. Before I name a few of them, I'll talk about the special situation The Miami Heat and why they have aggravated me and I assume many others (specifically the 2011-2012 team setup, onward--plus any team like this, I'll define it better a little further along). Their outright attempt to stack a team--I don't care if you can do it, it's bad for--not only-- watching the Playoffs, but it will in general set a precedent for other teams and how they decide to handle competition, PERIOD. It does have a little to do with the "Super Money Teams"™ syndrome that can plague the large markets, more so if the markets happen to have a high money cap AND they also have THE city life or area that those players are looking for; essentially bypassing the whole reason why they have what is called a draft. Trades are fine, but they need to be of equal value and this doesn't happen; sometimes teams lose players without a trade at all and THESE are what kill the smaller and less talented teams. So when those teams do well, I cheer them on three times harder than I ever cheered for many of the '00's champions that had it so good--but, the "supposed" ones that lost to, let us say the Dallas Mavericks in 2012 make me outright laugh. As to the teams I like to jeer: typically it's going to be The Miami Heat, The L.A. Lakers, and The San Antonio Spurs (great team, just don't like them). D-Will I still like, but he's losing ground fast, LeBron 'What Should I Do?'® James, Blake Griffin (needs to start an anti-foul league on his team), Chris Paul, Derek Rose, and I even like my own Jazz's Paul Millsap (I thought he was just a rebounding beast, but he can score too!). I really didn't like the GM and crew(s') decisions on how to fill the team at first, but this short season has flipped us around (partially) as we managed to barely make he playoffs. Luckily, everybody is brand new so they can only get better--and the Playoffs is where you need to be if you want good experience to make you great. I hope the Jazz can rise a rank (or two) each year at this pace, I'm a sunny weather and thinking fan... ENOUGH of the NBA--don't worry I'll change it from time ti time as everything here changes BTW, worst player: Washington Wizards: Javale McGee (sorry, he has some REALLY bad h"highlights"--although George Karl is doing a hell of a job with him; he seems to forget the difference between defense and offense sometimes, it seems...).
I'm also a physics junkie; mostly concerning quantum mechanics (superposition, entanglement), cosmology, nuclear sciences (Fission/Fusion/Weak & Strong), math concerning symmetry and constants (Euler's Number, c, Planck's, etc...) and neuroscience (along with how the body interacts with the world; human anatomy).
Philosophy jumps up here and there when you contemplate the following interactions (starting with fundamentals & then broadening out) that will, have, and are playing out on/in our psyche (or soul, spirit, and other non physio-mechanical, scientifically or medically explainable options) and the physical structure it is comprised of: physics/electromagnetism/relativity-->chemicals/molecules/memory-->perception/senses-->variables concerning our senses, structure of the brain, and perception using "tinted glasses": psychoactive drugs, psycho-pharmaceuticals or psychotropics.
Also, in this same vein of thinking lies the nearly inescapable realization that people can act as a type of "psychoactive substance"; especially when you add natural processes like reproduction into the mix.
This comes full circle and makes me pay stark attention to the details of my life. I try to keep up on the Psychology that deals with these broader and more mechanical & neuroscience based approaches.

Only fictional phantoms of burning bridges alight --

And the greater quote for this entity -
"I am the reaper of form and structure, the bolsterer of evanescence, and the bringer of sustenance.
My diligence surpasses my blindness, which is not and cannot be from Light, nor, in the Shadows of Conscious surrender.
Show humility for what I do for you; without question, and always relentless in function and place.
And all fear my loss, as it surely will bring my kindred to finish what I cannot consume."

And the brethren show their face, if we play away our fate-
The gates ajar and the comet's red tooth...
Then sounds the call of a mighty host
What gathers at the moon,
when what beckons the broken bones
Red ground guides the afar traveler, Now, they seek more
The gate gave sight although ajar, but none heed
a broken passage--that only gave by them a wishful plate.
So, when the moon Wanes with the West
Soon a call from the newly made Host,
will rinse the ground with blood and give back to Earth.
Those souls sought Cain's traitorous mark
But, They--weave--unto, All the most callous of Gods...

I wrote a long piece over on @<a rel="nofollow" href="http://lucky760.videosift.com" title="member since May 2nd, 2006" class="profilelink"><strong style="color:#0044ff">lucky760 's wall and it includes a section (the part that is written in small type) that applies to you. So when you have a chance please read it so you can understand fully what I mean when I say this: Thank You! Thank you for your contribution to the sift and especially the "darkroom" mode! Have a Happy New Year and a Merry 6th Anniversary for VideoSift!
Of course the only thing that truly matters in my story is that the strain of seasonal Type A Influenza flu virus that hit me was a particularly nasty strain that my immune system was fully unprepared to fight. So it ended up, exactly as I say in @lucky760's post below (and the main message on his profile) causing havoc with my body, eventually getting into my nervous system to some degree. It was costly and caused quite a few lasting effects/affects upon me; from new nervous system issues like minor auditory hallucinations to amplifying problems that already existed, like my Cluster headaches.
So, make sure you wash your hands, get your yearly flu shot, and be cautious around sick people (are they covering their mouth when they cough?) and dirty environments--plus whatever else you can think of to keep yourself safe. Trust me it IS worth the effort, please believe me.
I feel quite terribly for the suffering you have to go through. During many periods in my life, I've had terrible nagging headaches most days of the week, but definitely not to the extreme levels you described. I know you said narcotics don't help, but does cannabis have any affect at all?
It fulfills me to know all the work I put in around here isn't for naught.
Happy new year!

I thought I'd chime in too. Great work on the sift lucky, I hardly recognize it from nigh six years ago when I found it, then months later I made an actual account to get slightly involved. But, mostly I joined so that I could support VideoSift as it was a unique site and something I visited daily; I basically stopped going to youtube and various other video sites because the sift, voted on, and decided what were the videos to be seen. This process is still working great and helps us sort out the mediocre on the Internet and allow people that visit to find the best of the best in videos.
You of course lucky have made great strides in the interface and inner workings of the sift since those early days. Now, whether I use the sift on my PC, my cell, or my iPad--it works seamlessly and well. If it happens to be your birthday, then happy birthday as well!!!
To VideoSift and its future success and to @lucky760 !
P.S.- I don't know if you're responsible for setting it up or helping, but the "Dark" mode (which of course changes the background to black and makes it in general easier to see in different conditions) is an option that was created that I use all the time and if you created it, I want you to know how much I appreciate it--and I appreciate it in a way that you may not even suspect! I suffer from debilitating migraines that at one time were only present a few time in a week (easy enough to handle). Along with this I also have Cluster headaches (at that time I had them maybe once a month), which are...essentially extremely bad headaches (if anyone reading is interested, when they start they fire of in the brain and give the same indications that a seizure would give--neuroscientists literally have no idea what causes them), the Clusters can play games with your nervous system causing odd symptoms, like uncontrolled tearing of the eyes usually accompanied by a runny nose or up to the extreme of losing all the feeling on the left side of your body (I've seen both and many other things in between)--the Cluster headache is strong enough that it's even difficult to think while it's fully active, sometimes time is the only cure--narcotics tend to be like a drop of water in a well, they do nothing (the best relief comes from high-flow oxygen at around 12-14 LPM O2). I ended up getting the Swine Flu (or Influenza Type A) back in 2006. It unfortunately got to my nervous system and beyond the other damage that it did that i now have problems with, it changed the nature of the headaches. The migraines became daily, sometimes they are unrelenting--they never leave, for days. Worse of all the Clusters became much more prevalent hitting twice a week on average.
Then VideoSift changed their setup, allowing for a "darkroom" environment. The headaches and their intensity are related by light in a room; for example if I want to help myself out going to a dark room with some cool air helps the most. To tell you the truth a small change, like the one VideoSift made, and it may not have been completely all your doing, but either way I wanted you to know this IN DETAIL so that when I thank you it means just that much more! So now you know just how much a small change to the environment and viewing area has had a profound change on me and my web-surfing experience. I can view VideoSift much easier now, as the previous pure white scheme literally hurt to look at. If you've ever wondered if the smaller features are worth it, this is a testimonial that explains why it is. So, once again @lucky760 thanks for everything you have done here at VideoSift and continue to do!
//I know that was a bit long and involved, but I hope it makes you realize how appreciated you are here!
This achievement has earned you your "Golden One" Level 2 Badge!
